EA puts 25 classic games on Steam, with restored Road Rash and Wing Commander
Electronic Arts announced on November 5 that 25 of its older games are now on Steam for the first time, as well as on GOG and the EA App. Seven are new Anniversary Editions: Road Rash, Wing Commander I to IV, Wing Commander Prophecy and Privateer 2: The Darkening. EA says it restored their video scenes from master tapes found in a media vault at its offices, and bundled fan-made patches. The other 18 are straight ports, among them Ultima I to IX, both Ultima Underworld games, Theme Hospital and the two Crusader games.
What it means for you:
- Price: on Steam, each Anniversary Edition lists at $9.99 and each other game at $4.99. All 25 were 50% off when we checked on November 6, so Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition was $4.99. EA says the sale runs on Steam and GOG from November 5 to 19.
- Platform: the Steam listings we checked are Windows only.
- Road Rash: the first digital release of the 1996 PC version, with up to 60 fps, controller support and cloud saves.
- Already own Wing Commander? If you bought the games digitally on GOG or the EA App, EA says you get the Anniversary Edition upgrade free on that store.
Our take: At $2.49 to $4.99 during the sale, this is a cheap way to try some of the defining PC games of the 1990s. The 18 straight ports aren't remastered, so expect them to look and play their age.
007 First Light's opening mission is now free on PC and Xbox
IO Interactive released a Free Starter Pack for 007 First Light on November 5, on Steam and Xbox Series X|S. It contains the game's opening mission in Iceland, and the studio said on X at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET that it was live.
What it means for you:
- PS5: the Starter Pack arrives on November 10. PlayStation Plus Premium members can already play a one-hour timed trial.
- Progress carries over: what you do in the Starter Pack or the trial carries into the full game if you buy it.
- Discounts: IO Interactive lists 40% off on Steam until November 9, 40% off on Xbox until November 15, and 50% off on PS5 until November 30.
- Check the edition on Steam: when we checked the Steam store page on November 6, the discount applied to the Deluxe Edition, $47.99 instead of $79.99, while the standard edition stayed at $69.99.
Our take: A whole mission, with your progress kept if you buy, is a generous way to judge a full-price game before paying for it. On Steam, the discounted Deluxe Edition costs less than the standard one, so there's no reason to pick the cheaper-sounding option.
Stellar Blade arrives on Switch 2 for $59.99
Shift Up's action game Stellar Blade, until now on PS5 and PC, launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5 as Stellar Blade Complete Edition. The Nintendo eShop listing prices it at $59.99 and says it includes the content from the NieR:Automata and Goddess of Victory: Nikke crossover DLCs, some of which unlocks only after you progress through the story.
What it means for you:
- Play modes: TV, tabletop and handheld.
- Boxed copies: Shift Up's Switch 2 page lists a limited SteelBook edition at participating retailers.
- New outfits on PC: the PC version's 1.5.0 patch, posted at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET on November 5, adds four Bayonetta crossover nanosuits (Bayonetta, Jeanne, Nun and Black Tresses), plus matching glasses and earrings and a list of bug fixes.
Our take: Getting both crossover DLCs in the $59.99 price makes this the complete version of the game. If you already play on PC, the update is the only thing you need for the new outfits.
Sony raises its PlayStation forecast as PS5 sales pass 97 million
Sony's second-quarter results, filed on November 5, show its Game & Network Services segment made 1,208.5 billion yen in sales from July to September, 9% more than a year earlier, and 83% more operating income. Sony raised the segment's full-year sales forecast from 4,540 billion to 4,830 billion yen, mainly on higher sales of games from other publishers. It also expects lower sales of its own games than planned, "mainly due to a change in a title release date", without naming the game.
What it means for you:
- Consoles: Sony's business data page shows 2.6 million PS5 consoles shipped in the quarter, down from 4.0 million a year earlier, for more than 97 million in total.
- Games: PS4 and PS5 games sold 88.2 million units in the quarter, up from 80.3 million a year earlier.
- Players: Sony estimates 127 million monthly active PlayStation users as of September 30.
Our take: Fewer new consoles but more games sold means PS5 owners are still buying, which keeps publishers releasing on the system. Sony's raised forecast leans on other publishers' games more than its own.
Xbox speeds up its PC app for Insiders and refreshes cloud gaming on the web
Xbox announced on November 5 that Xbox Insiders can now try an updated Xbox PC app. Microsoft says, based on its own testing, that the app launches up to 60% faster, loads the Home, Store and Game Pass pages up to 50% faster and opens in-app windows up to 65% faster. Friends and parties move into the main navigation, the Library gets new filters, and search now finds installed games, add-ons and people.
What it means for you:
- PC app: Insiders only for now. You join through the Xbox Insider Hub app on PC or console.
- Cloud gaming on the web: the refreshed version that Insiders tested earlier in 2026 reaches more players automatically over the coming weeks, or you can try it now at play.xbox.com. It adds a Library tab with every cloud game you own or get through Game Pass, a desktop mode for big screens, and light, dark and five high-contrast themes.
- TVs and VR headsets: the same look is starting to roll out to Xbox cloud gaming apps there.
Our take: Faster loading fixes something PC players notice every time they open the app. If you're not an Insider, the web changes are the part you'll see first.
