Naughty Dog will stay quiet about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for the rest of 2026 and fully reveal it in 2027, studio head Neil Druckmann wrote on September 28. He also confirmed "a couple of" new The Last of Us projects in very early development. Also in this roundup: a launch date for Monster Hunter Outlanders, a Double XP fix in Modern Warfare 4, a Fire Emblem cup in Tetris 99 and a release date for Suri: The Seventh Note.
Naughty Dog sets a 2027 reveal for Intergalactic, plans more Last of Us
In a post closing out The Last of Us Day, published September 28, Druckmann said Intergalactic is shaping up to be the studio's most ambitious game yet, but Naughty Dog won't show more of it in 2026. The full reveal comes in 2027. He also said the studio has a couple of new projects in "very early stages" that expand The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II.
What it means for you:
- Intergalactic: no release date or window, and no month for the reveal, only the year.
- New Last of Us projects: no names, platforms or dates. Druckmann didn't say what form they take.
- Ghost of Yōtei crossover: the studio's The Last of Us Day post says a Clicker-inspired armor set arrives October 1 in Ghost of Yōtei's Most Wanted mode. Once unlocked, you can wear it in the main game and the Echoes of Sekigahara DLC.
- Profile extras: the same post has codes for four PlayStation avatars, plus a PS5 Welcome Hub background and animated Steam avatars.
Our take: A clear answer, even one that means waiting until 2027, beats another year of guessing. Druckmann never said Part III, though, so don't assume either project is one.
Monster Hunter Outlanders launches on phones October 29
Capcom's press release dated September 29 says Monster Hunter Outlanders comes to iOS and Android on October 29, 2026. TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent subsidiary, develops it. Capcom describes a survival hunting action game where you hunt monsters and explore alongside companions gathered from different regions, with controls built for mobile devices.
What it means for you:
- Date: October 29, 2026. Capcom didn't give a launch time.
- Price: free-to-play, with in-app purchases.
- Platforms: iOS and Android. The mainland China version follows in 2027 or later.
Our take: Free is the right price to try Monster Hunter on a phone. In-app purchases are part of the deal, though, so play a few hunts before you spend anything.
Modern Warfare 4 Double XP tokens will only tick during matches
The official Call of Duty account announced on September 28 that Double XP tokens will count down in game time in Modern Warfare 4, and that tokens you already own will be usable there. Until now, as IGN explains, a token started counting down the moment you activated it and kept running in lobbies where you can't earn XP.
What it means for you:
- When: the change comes with Modern Warfare 4, which Activision's announcement dates for October 23, 2026.
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Not PS4 or Xbox One.
- Your stockpile: tokens you already own will work in Modern Warfare 4, so there's no need to use them up before launch.
Our take: A small fix, but a fair one: an hour of Double XP should mean an hour of playing, not an hour of matchmaking.
Tetris 99 hosts a Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave cup October 2‑5
Nintendo of America's 57th Maximus Cup trailer, posted September 28, sets the next Tetris 99 event. Earn 100 event points during the cup and you unlock a theme with art, music and Tetrimino designs from the Switch 2 game Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
What it means for you:
- When: from 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET on October 2 to 11:59 p.m. PT on October 5 (2:59 a.m. ET on October 6).
- What you need: a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Play Tetris 99's online mode during the event.
- Points: you earn them based on where you place in each match, so better finishes get you to 100 faster.
Our take: A theme is cosmetic, but four days is a comfortable window to reach 100 points. If your games end early, our Tetris tips for beginners cover the stacking habits that keep you alive longer.
Suri: The Seventh Note launches October 30 on PS5
Tathvamasi Studios announced in a PlayStation Blog post on September 28 that its debut game, Suri: The Seventh Note, launches October 30, 2026 on PS5 after four years of development. The game is built around music: the studio says 80% of the music was recorded on analog instruments rather than synthesized, and it spaces the main beats 480 milliseconds apart so you have time to react. The island setting draws on art and architecture from across India.
What it means for you:
- Pre-orders: open now on PS5, with a 20% pre-order discount for PlayStation Plus members on either edition.
- Digital Deluxe Edition: adds the Chandini skin, DLC and 3 days of early access. The skin and DLC are only sold with this edition.
- Price: the post doesn't list one.
- Platforms: the post mentions PS5 only.
Our take: A rhythm game with a soundtrack played on real instruments is an easy one to root for. With no price announced, there's no rush: wait for the price and early reviews unless you want the early access.
