Minecraft is getting its first new dimension in more than 14 years. Mojang announced at Minecraft LIVE on September 26, 2026 that The Sift is coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027, and you can explore a version of it first in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches on September 29. The Sift is coming to Minecraft in 2027
The Sift first appeared as the new dimension in Minecraft Dungeons II. The news from Minecraft LIVE is that it is also coming to Minecraft itself: Xbox Wire's announcement says Mojang confirmed it for 2027, and Mojang's own recap calls it the fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End. In Dungeons II, the Sift has areas called the Meadows and the Carapace, new mobs and hazardous new blocks. For Minecraft itself, Mojang has not said how you will get there or given a date.
What it means for you:
- Minecraft Java and Bedrock: The Sift arrives in 2027. No date yet.
- Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC (Xbox app and Steam), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It is included with Game Pass, and Xbox Play Anywhere means one purchase covers both Xbox console and PC. Neither Xbox Wire's post nor Mojang's Dungeons II page lists a price.
- Hero Cape: Mojang's Dungeons II page says that if you play both Minecraft Dungeons games on the same Microsoft account (Game Pass counts), you get a cape in Dungeons II and in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.
- The next Minecraft drop adds ice caves, with icicles and glowing ice crystals, plus a frozen zombie variant whose hits freeze you (some also throw ice balls). Mojang did not give a release date.
- Switch 2: the same recap says Minecraft comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
Our take: A fourth dimension is the biggest change to Minecraft's world in years, and Dungeons II lets Game Pass members see it at no extra cost. Everyone else can wait for Minecraft's own version in 2027 without missing much.
The Witcher 3 Remastered launches September 29 as a free upgrade
CD Projekt Red's launch post, published September 28, confirms The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered arrives on September 29, 2026 on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. If you bought any version of the game before, physical or digital, the studio says you can upgrade for free within the same platform family.
What it means for you:
- Release time: 3 a.m. PT / 6 a.m. ET on September 29, the same moment on every platform, according to both GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer.
- What changes: improved lighting and shading, native DirectX 12 rendering, polished monster combat, a much bigger photo mode, and a Reforge option that changes your gear's look without touching its stats. Switch 2 gets motion controls and a mouse mode.
- Heads-up: skills now sit in a new skill tree, and CD Projekt warns that your skill points are reset, so plan to re-spend them.
- Expansions: since the August 25 announcement, every owner of The Witcher 3 gets Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no extra cost. A new paid expansion, Songs of the Past, is due in 2027.
- PC players on Windows 10: CD Projekt's updated PC requirements say it no longer officially supports Windows 10. The game won't stop running there, but the studio no longer tests on it. The same page says that, depending on your platform, you can roll back to the older 1.32 ("Classic") or 4.04 versions.
Our take: If you own The Witcher 3, there is no reason not to try this. It costs nothing, and the rollback option means you can go back if you prefer the old look.
God of War Laufey pre-orders open September 29
Santa Monica Studio's PlayStation Blog post says pre-orders for God of War Laufey open on September 29 at 10 a.m. local time. The game comes to PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The post also shows Faye's new Serpent Bow, which has a precise full-aim mode and a quicker hip-fire mode.
What it means for you:
- Pre-order bonus: the Last Wish armor set, a cosmetic Golden Leaves look for Phranque, and an in-game resource pack. Physical Standard Edition buyers get it as a download code.
- Digital Deluxe Edition: a Dark Alchemy armor set, blade, bow scales and catalyst, another resource pack, a digital mini artbook and the digital soundtrack.
- Price: Sony's post doesn't list prices for either edition.
- Platforms: the announcement mentions PlayStation 5 only.
Our take: The bonuses are gear and cosmetics, not extra story, and the game is more than four months away. Unless you want the Deluxe extras, you lose nothing by waiting for reviews.
Five Nights at Freddy's joins Fortnitemares on October 1
Epic confirmed the long-rumored crossover in an official Fortnite trailer posted on September 27, 2026. Its description promises animatronic bosses in Battle Royale and says Fortnitemares, Fortnite's yearly Halloween event, begins October 1. Eurogamer reports that Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria will be a location on the island, with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy as the bosses, and Kotaku notes that the trailer also shows FNAF skins.
What it means for you:
- Date: Fortnitemares starts October 1, 2026. The announcement doesn't give a start time.
- Skins: neither the trailer nor the reports above say how the FNAF skins will be sold or what they cost.
Our take: A boss fight in a haunted pizzeria is a perfect fit for a Halloween event. Before you save up V-Bucks, wait until Epic says how the skins are sold.
