Jagex Reveals RS4, a New RuneScape MMO Built in Unreal Engine

Jagex is making a new RuneScape MMO, working title RS4, built in Unreal Engine and still a few years away. The studio revealed it at RuneFest on October 3, 2026. Also in this roundup: fresh-start modes for RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, a date for Gran Turismo 7's Spec IV update, a new anti-cheat layer in Modern Warfare 4, and the end of the Bungie Store.

Jagex reveals RS4, a new RuneScape MMO

Jagex's official RS4 page says the new game is an MMORPG built in Unreal Engine and set in Gielinor during the Sixth Age. It starts in Ashenfall, the land north-east of Gielinor that players first explored in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, years after the events of that game. RS4 is only a working title: Jagex calls it its "fourth generation RuneScape project" and may pick a different name. Jagex says it is showing the game this early so players can help shape it.

What it means for you:

  • Release: no date, no window and no platforms. Jagex only says the game is still a few years away.
  • Still unknown: accounts, membership, combat and skills. Jagex says it will share much more in 2027, including how players can get involved.
  • Your current game is safe: Jagex says RS4 doesn't replace Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds, and each keeps its own team and roadmap.
  • Sign-up: the page has an email form to register interest.

Our take: Showing a game years before launch is a gamble, but Old School RuneScape already puts its updates to player polls, so Jagex has practice at building with its community. Until Jagex says how membership and progression work, treat RS4 as a promise, not a plan.

Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Part 1 arrives October 15

Polyphony Digital announced on October 3, at Round 3 of the Gran Turismo World Series in Singapore, that the first half of the Spec IV update arrives October 15. Spec IV is free and comes in two parts, as the studio first announced on September 3. Part 1 adds the Sportsland SUGO circuit and six cars, plus Vintage (a section for cars you can no longer buy new), Car Concierge (for ordering Used and Legend cars), a brand-themed Experience mode, a Car Viewer and a higher Collector Level cap.

What it means for you:

  • Price: free for Gran Turismo 7 owners. The game is sold on PS5 and PS4.
  • Part 2 in December: the Autumn Ring circuit, six more cars, a Family mode, Shuffle Race, Online Drift Trial, an updated GT Sophy and a new Power Pack difficulty level.
  • New wheel: Thrustmaster's officially licensed T-GT III wheel and pedal set for PS5 and PS4 goes on sale December 3 at a recommended $749.99.

Our take: A free update with a new track this late in Gran Turismo 7's life is good value. Car Concierge could be the best part, if ordering a rare car beats waiting for it to turn up in the used and Legend car lists.

RuneScape and Old School RuneScape get fresh-start modes

Jagex announced fresh economies for both games at RuneFest on October 3. RuneScape Reignited is a new permanent character type with its own economy, Grand Exchange and hiscores, and no paid progression. It arrives December 2 in the same update as the Adventure Guide and more remastered early-game content. Old School RuneScape's Hardcore Worlds open November 4: separate worlds with a separate economy where every character gets one life.

What it means for you:

  • Reignited trial: every Reignited character gets free access to members' worlds for the first 10 days after the December 2 launch. After that, Jagex says they need their own membership.
  • Two economies: Reignited and existing characters share worlds and can join the same clans, but they can't trade with each other, and you can't convert one type into the other.
  • Hardcore Worlds rules: no XP or drop-rate boosts. When you die, you either restart or move to the main game, keeping your progress but losing the items you died with.

Our take: A shared fresh start is the best reason in years for lapsed players to return. Reignited's 10 free days of members' worlds make it a cheap way to find out if the old magic is still there.

Modern Warfare 4 will hide enemies from wallhacks with server culling

The official Call of Duty account announced Server Culling on October 2, a new anti-cheat layer for Modern Warfare 4, which launches October 23. Wallhacks show cheaters information they were never meant to have, such as where enemies are hiding. With Server Culling, the server withholds an opponent's location from your hardware whenever you shouldn't be able to know where they are. As the account put it, cheat software "can't reveal information it never receives."

What it means for you:

  • Where it works: every Modern Warfare 4 map at launch, plus DMZ, Combat Outpost and new live-season maps for multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone from Season 1.
  • Every platform: it runs on the server, so it covers PC and console. Warzone gets it with Season 1.
  • One more layer: the Call of Duty team says it works alongside Call of Duty's existing anti-cheat systems, not instead of them.

Our take: Cutting off the information wallhacks rely on is smarter than chasing each cheat after it ships. Whether it works will show in the first weeks after launch, not in a trailer.

The Bungie Store closes on October 19

The official Bungie Store account said on October 2 that Bungie is retiring its store for Bungie and Destiny merchandise on October 19, 2026, and building a new home for it.

What it means for you:

  • Emblem codes and downloads: the store's FAQ says digital downloads and emblem codes stay available through December 31, 2026, so grab any codes you haven't saved.
  • Pre-orders: orders still waiting on pre-order items will be fulfilled after the store closes.
  • Marathon: Marathon's own storefront stays open.
  • What's next: Bungie will say where to find Bungie and Destiny merch in 2027.

Our take: The emblem codes are the part that matters for Destiny players. The FAQ points you to the download instructions in your order emails, so dig those out before December 31.
